The action is a little harder than the rubber dome, but it does spring back and the button still works. Also important is ease of use, and I find that between Windows XP Media Center Edition and a few of the included Dell utilities, the e does everything I want it to do without any particular difficulties.
Glad to know there's a do-it-yourself solution. Insert the crew driver or any other tool, and lisft the flat thin metal plate where your touchpad and your buttons sit.
Dell probably needs to have a recall or something because although it may not toucgpad many, it is still too many people with the same problem. In most cases a part replacement is not needed and the issue should be fixed.
Anyhow, found this website and was encouraged to fix this myself. When looking to purchase a notebook computer, it can be useful to think in two-hundred-dollar increments, I find.
